Hey ladies and gents! New to the site and it looks as though this is a good place for some expert advice! I have a bunch of red cedar trees down and am looking to make railings and posts for my deck out of them. My question is are the ripping chains used for milling worth the money or can a regular chain be used instead? I have a John Deere 80EV for the power head with a 28 inch bar and a homemade mill attachment. Any chain specs on what would work the best would be great!
Thanks guys

Ripping chains produce a smoother finish and are a little easier on the saw, but don't necessarily cut faster.

Since you are just starting out I'd suggest running whatever chain you have on hand and go from there.
