the pinto rig looks good on paper - 16mm ropes and 95% efficiency, but the pinto only has 13mm and 71%. That's a lot worse than what it sounds, unless you've only lowering. Realistically though, these pulleys are too small a diameter in the wheel, with loads above 500# you really need to go 2"+. I've got some 8000# rated pulleys with a think a 4" wheel that are excellent and were very cheap but weigh a lot. They're all steel.

I've got a petzl Rescue which is pretty usable, but only for13mm rope also. Nice pulley though. I've also got a mini traxion that I use a lot.

I hear you:) That mini traxion looks like a very good piece of kit

it's one of my most used bits of gear, and I've got a few different brands of ascenders. pulleys a shunt (very nice bit of gear also!) a microcender, a croll etc... but that mini traxion gets heaps of use. Its a lot safer than the pro traxion unfortunately... I'd much rather have the larger diameter of the pro, but there have been a couple of fatalities with the side sheave opening. The mini doesnt have that problem.

The most common ways I use it are as an ascender, and a self camming part of a 2:1 haul system. I often also use it for pulling a tree over, I start with a 2:1, then a second 2:1 attached to that. The mini traxion keeps it all tight while I make my felling cut, then pull her over.
