But the Husky 550xp most definitely gives the 261cm a run for it’s money. I may actually prefer the 550.
That's significant.Dyno Joe Mods on YouTube puts several 50cc class saws on the dyno. The 550 puts out about .6hp more than the 261.

So I take it we are talking about the 550 mk2?
I'd rather run a late model 550 mk1, great handling machine for limbing.
Too bad there aren't more of them around, but it's a good thing I'm stocked up.
That's how I felt. With all the hype about the latest 261cm at the time I really expected more, I sold my first one 2 weeks after getting it.Somewhat regret not having grabbed a MK1 xpg when I could.
With the limited time I have on the 261, I can only say I was pleased. Definitely not impressed. It is a nice saw, but I was hoping for it to be something significantly more than a 346 for all the years between their respective release dates.
Husky has pretty much always smoked Stihl in the 50 and 60CC size saws.
The 455 rancher is the comparable model to the 290, the 460 and the 310 are similar.Once upon a time I had a ms290 and a husky 460. The MS had a high hp via factory rating yet the 460 was a hell of a lot stronger.

I've never seen a high hp factory rating on a 290, but maybe I don't get out much.
Those are the numbers, but the 460 has more grunt for sure. As I said, the comparable stihl to the 460 is the ms310 as they are 59/60cc.Husqvarna 460 -- 3.62Hp
Stihl ms290 -- 3.8Hp
Again the 460 felt like it had more then the Stihl. I ran 20" bar on the Stihl, and a 24" bar on the Husky. I alway meant to put a 24 on the Stihl and see how it felt, but never got around to it. I do believe it would have been to much for the Stihl. 20 was the sweet spot.

The 24 is a bit much on the 290, but it would do okay on the 310 and even better on the 390.
Tried a 24/25" set-up on both the MS290 Farm Boss, and the Husqvarna 455 Rancher. Great for soft wood.Anyone run a 24" on a 455 rancher? I'm running the 20" right now and feel like a 24" would bog it down too much. At the same time running a redmax gz5000 which is essentially a red 550xp just not sure if its a mk1 or mk2 (but maxes out at a 18"??). Love the redmax, but the 455 has its place too.
