Here is a tree where your general rules may not apply.
Dead and leaning strongly in the direction of the lay.
Impressive amount of rot on the back side. There was apparently just enough good wood along the sides to keep it up.
A 33% in face was not workable. It would have collapsed and pinched the bar. {If you included all the rotten wood one could have stretched the story to say the face was in 1/3rd.}
A high open face had no relevance. It was gonna go where it was gonna go and the hinge might have held through 50 degrees if that because of its the dead dry nature.
If you are a plunge cutter on every tree you might want to have that second saw handy when the first gets pinched or involved in a crushing event.
