Looking to buy some sort of lift because working from a lift is so much easier. I'm looking at buying a used bucket truck vs a drivable or towable lift. Does anyone know the speed to reach full cycle height of a bucket truck? I found where a rough terrain articulated boom lift takes about 75 seconds. I'm trying to start a part time tree sevice and was wondering what would be a good lift to get me started in this business. Any remarks or extra info would greatly be appreciated.

Welcome!

As to bucket truck speed.....if I rev my high ranger up to 4k I can hit 65ft. in about 12 seconds. It's a bit bouncy but that's what this biz is all about!

Wow that's fast.
Do you ever find yourself not being able to use your truck because of tight spaces or soft ground?

Why the heck does it matter how fast it goes to the top. That is stupid. You will never be able to do every job from a bucket truck or portable lift or even climbing. ( well maybe climbing if your crazy enough). Everything has pros and cons. Bucket trucks are cheaper but then you have a big registration payment each year. A portable lift is great but they cost so much ($165,000 or so for a 75' lift) , and you won't be able to get everything with it. Buy what you can afford and only do the jobs you can do with it. Invest in a good chipper. It sometimes will make the difference in making money or not on a job.

Can believe you didnt blow out your hydro pump on your truck. My buckets recomended truck engine rpm is not to exced 2000 rpm or right around there.

living in FL no trees are tall at all, a small used utillity bucket truck might be the way to go, but i climb and have climbed for a long time and i think any good tree co should be able to do ANY tree from a rope, maybe not super dead ones but thats just me fighting "Joes Tree Cutters" businesses

Wait, what?

Do tell.

i been to fl a few times and never saw a tree over 40 ft, i thought man it be nice to be a climber down there, i havent explored the whole state but touristy beach and everglades have small trees from my experiance, forgive me if there are real trees somewere i wasnt

Yea pard,ya don't get to see much in the everglades .That's mostly sawgrass and palmettos.

We got live oaks to 60-70 ft, slash pines 80 -100 ft.The hickories give both of them a run for their money as well.
The tourist spots are mostly cleared of everything and replanted with palms and exotics.
