Someone from our garden club left me some nuts that he took from a tree on his fathers farm in Nova Scotia. His Dad planed it 40 yrs ago and is now dead so there there is no one to ask what it was. I talked to the son and he said the tree is wide spreading. The husk of the nut looks like a Butternut but is soft and friable not hard like the Butternut. When you remove the husk the nut looks like a heart. I am attaching a picture of the nut can anyone identify it?
