Oak tree prune

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond.
Need some advice on how to make this cut(normal) or should I leave it alone.I trimmed off an old dead limb and it seems the trees natural response was to encompass it self(cool).Lots of large oak trees that haven't been taken care of and Id like them to heal properly.Its getting cold out so its time to prune.

Where you cut is correct. Do not cut into the collar or the wood reaching out to compartmentalize the dead stub.

I agree...leave it alone. Normally the branch collar doesn't leave such a big stub, but thatis how this one grew.
