Last summer I gave a bid to a new church to install a bunch of trees, about half of the total project. My bid turned out to be over double what the general contractor agreed to do the job for so obviously I didn't get the job:rolleyes: While I was there I noticed how much damage they were doing to the mature trees already there and told them they will lose most of them because of it, burying them, new parking lot over others...see pics. I figured I wouldn't get the job as soon as I saw the other work being done but bid anyway because I was interested in seeing the specs and plan. I'm sure they took the cheapest contractors they could find and were getting what they paid for. Later they ended up removing about 4 of the trees in the parking area and topping about 3 other large Oaks:angry:
Well a couple days ago the pastor called me back and I went to talk to him, the contractor got paid and now doesn't have the money to install the landscaping, but says he will provide laborers to do the work. He wants to hire me to supervise these guys and supply the plants and materials:confused: This a lot of plants, about 250 1-2" caliper on a 2 acre site. Plant, stake if needed, mulch etc. , I figure with somone elses guys maybe 2 weeks 3 or 4 guys? I will have to make sure they are in the right spots and planted correctly etc.
How the heck am I supposed to charge for this? I'm thinking charging about $75/hr. for my time including a minimum of so many for the leg work of tracking down the materials, setting up delivery and receiving etc. Then maybe a minimum amount per day like 3 hrs and I'll get then started in the morning and go by 2 or 3 times a day and check on them. It's right down the street from me so I would be able to do that.
Sound reasonable? Am I missing anything? They will pay for materials upfront!
Could lead to other work down the road as alot of the trees are going to need to be removed, but then again it might go to the cheapest co., I'm still wondering why he even called me back knowing I was expensive?????

Them dang root thangs are a pain in the butt! Chop them off, pave over them, bury them with 3 feet of dirt. But whatever you do, don't pile up mulch against the trunk! That might hurt the tree!

What a bunch of idiots. I'd probably let my pride get in the way and give them a written bid on removing the huge trees that they killed (they just don't know it yet). Then I'd wish them good luck butchering the rest of the property!

Churches are Difficult to deal with i did a rather large removal for one Lost my Shirt on the job.I thought that would get my foot in the door because i knew they had about 50 trees to prune.I was called out to bid the lawn maintenance. The day i showed up to walk the property There was another tree service there Pruning the trees. The trustee told me he figured i'd be too busy
 But praised the way i had cleaned there parking lot end of every day during the removal. I was so Pissed
i didnt even quote the lawn. The real irritating part was i had figured i'd charge about 3500.00 for the pruning and the
{Friend of another trustee tree guy} charged them 6800.00 Of course i rubbed that in!
