So…what does one do when out and about with one’s grandchild, and she is getting a little fussy. What to do….what to do….what to do…

Well being that I’m quite a stern fella, I don’t spoil my grandchild. No sir, not me! What to do….what to do….what to do…

We were at the Logging Expo, in Bangor, on Sat. Good fun show, and she was getting a little antsy so I thought perhaps a little gift might appease her. Anyway, she already has a skidda, and a couple of harvesters, so…. What to do….what to do….what to do…

A big rig was out. We tried that and about went broke buying lumber to make blocks, so she could reach the pedals. What to buy….What to buy….What to buy……

We were near the chainsaw area, and then I had an idea. Tried out the Dolmar 5100 & 7900. I knew what had to be done…..

I bought her one of each! Oh Man….Yeah!

This seemed to please her, so I was happy. She is going to let her Daddy break in the 5100, and consented to let me take care of the 7900. Good deal huh?

Paid $350 for the 5100 & $630 for the 7900. Got a bunch of free stuff an even a couple of hats. (Spent about $1300 at the Sthil shop awhile back. Sort of seriously joked about getting a Stihl hat. Just a glum look back from the fella writing up the order. Humbug!)

Anyway, I was happy. They actually cared about getting my business. So, the dealer was happy, as well as the northeast distributor, who was also there.

But…most important of all, “Her Highness” was well pleased. All she could say was “Oh Man….Yeah!

Thats a good lookin kid ya got there gramps. Nice pics.
I agree!

Wuv dem wittle beebees! (I am a total newbie when it comes to babies, finding them to be pretty cool - in an 'involved' way.) Our newest grandbaby is 4 months tomorrow... too much fun! Kinda hard to get anything else done while I babysit, but I guess that's part of the drill, and not a bother at all. She might be saying the same thing about looking after me in forty years or so. :D so I'm gonna treat her like a wittle pwincess.

Oh Man....Yeah:clap: This grandbaby lives a couple of hours away, but we are lucky cause she visits often. We have had her for a few days a couple of times. Not only is it fun, but you are correct, it is a wonderful excuse to do nothin' but play.:love1:

Yeah.... it was amazing to watch my father as a grandfather ! Especially after growing up under him ! He was tough. But with the grandchildren.... it was all the good stuff ! Not much disciplining to do.... just enjoyment !

It's pretty hard not go give in when a kid wants a new saw, my youngest just got a new Stihl for his birthday from my friend, I tried to tell him he already had a toy saw, but nooo...he had to have a Stihl! We had to save that one for the last present for him to open so he would pay attention to the rest. It was by far the favorite...and he just turned 2. He would have rather had an MS 361, but they are a little pricey.

I know exactly what you are saying. Wife and I raised a niece that was over 15 yrs. younger than my children. My kids would make comments on the different ways I treated them vs. my niece. I think it was just that I was older and perhaps more mellow. Plus I wasn't rushing around trying to make a living, farm, build a house and lotso utter tings that I did when raising my kids.

But somewhere between my children and our niece the world changed. Woosh. Never even saw it myself too much till I started dealing with her friends and the schools. All this political correct krapola has really effected how things are done in schools. It is pitifull what has taken place. Very discouraged teachers, not much disipline, (don't touch my Johnny), not much learing. Kids lacked respect for other people. When my niece was in high shcool, I was a burr on the buttock of the school. They hated to see me coming. To me it as a sobering and sad experience, despite the fact that my niece ranked 3rd in her class.

We need to stop this world and try to regain some values to teach our children. Tain't gona happen. These kids, that were not taught respect, and not taking any responsibility for what they do....are.....going to be the next gen. of parents. How will they teach their children? Sad.

I think that homeschooling would be seriously considered, if I had the opportunity to raise another kiddo.

Sorry for my off topic rant. It's just seeing the way I & others my age , (60), were taught, and seeing what has come to now is really heartbreaking.

People my age, and some younger are the "Baby Boomers". We were raised and taught by the "Greatest Generation". These people didn't cry and run to the gov't for help. They toughed it out. Having had WWII at their backs gave them the where with all to git ur done. They were truly "The Greatest Generation" Few months ago,I had and Aunt pass away, at 93. It thunder struck me to realize that she was the last one, in my family, from that era...

Saws

Just bought two Sthil saws my self and dident even get a hat....

man.... ps most of my generation are whiny babies.... I cant stand the lovey feely crap... my wife says I sound like a grumpy old man

What's up with the stinginess with the hats? I got a free hat and a free 6-pack of 2-cycle oil when I bought my BR420. :)

And I agree: it's sad the greatest generation is passing away, and the boomers, gen-Xers and such are so whiney and spineless. Fortunately, we're not all that way. ;)
