Hi Folks!

Recently finished to fully rebuild a MS461. Saw works like new, but it looks like I somehow messed up with the case sealing. Engine compartment is sealed, but oil tank isn't and leaks. Could I add some car engine seal compound to help seal the oil tank?

probably will not work that well if trying to do without splitting case again. may work for awhile or slow down leak?

If it's coming from case gasket correct fix is new gasket. Sure it's not leaking from oil pump connection/oil pump?

yes 100% sure, leaks all around the gasket, only in the whole front section, where the oil tank is

If you end up splitting the cases to replace the gasket be sure the mating surfaces are perfectly clean and without imperfections/gouges/dents.

I used to work at a cycle shop and we did a lot of dirt bikes. Carefully get as much as the old gasket material off as possible. If you use a copper scraper it won't mar the aluminum. When pretty clean we would use a large flat carborundum sharpening stone and some diesel to hone the surfaces flat, remove any traces of gasket, and leave them shiny clean.

For the gasket we'd put a dab of fuel resistant sealer between our thumb and forefinger (gloved) and squeeze a thin film onto both sides of the gasket.

yes, reduced a bit the leak. Will split the case a bit and try to readjust the gasket, then reclose the case. Will see what happens
