Purchased a 93 ford f 700 bucket chipper truck combo today if any body could tell me anything about the ol orange units id appreciate it!pros cons its well used few minor problems ive noticed all ready!drips little oil out of drivers side outrigger and fan is loose onkubota motor ... Please any advice or things to watch for.....oh yeah its the lr3 altec boom THANKS!

no but if thier is structural damage to it it would be good to find out. booms on trucks should be inspected every year or so i base it on how much its being used for me. on a used one that i didnt know what it has been through i would probably have it checked out. the local power company where i live can inspect them thats who i take it to for piece of mind.

thiers probably nothing wrong with it. but its better knowing than guessing. if you have employees running it it has to be inspected yearly where i live to be in with OSHA compliance. because god forbid something did fail on it and it wasnt inspected big time fine.

im not real familiar with the models ive only had trex highrangers is it cable drivin?

It appears to bechain and cable and hydraulic it has white plastic covers over the upper boom that come off some body had tape holding them on but took it off to examine the boom which appears to be fiberglass!

The boom should be the least of your worries right now. First thing to fix is the outrigger. If it is leaking oil you have a bad seal and will allow the outrigger to drift upward when you put weight on that side of the truck. Rotating to that side of the truck with the boom streached out could tip the truck over.

when you removed the outer boom covers and replace them you have to have a spacer between the fiberglass and the boom cover to allow water and moisture to exscape if they are flush the moisture will build up and the boom loses its insulating properties. They are taped on from the factory using a special tape and don't tape the seam this is where it breaths

Thanks for the info if you think of anything else tell me could i just order the boom covers and out rigger parts from altec or should i go another route?
