I posted this as a question to part of another thread, but didn't recall a reply, so I'll toss it out as a thread. Should be simple to answer for the pros. My Stihl 028 Super has a breather hose coming out of the fuel tank that appears to have small "springs" on either end... why ??? won't that impede the airflow.

Oh, and while I'm at it, if I can have 2 for a dollar. What is the best way to clean the bar oil compartment to improve flow to the chain ? Gas/Kerosene/some type of miracle cleaner ???

Thanks, Guys.

Are you familiar with GORE-TEX? Same principle. Gasses will exit a smaller hole than liquid, and it's not large quantity air flows we're talkin' about here.

Far as the oil goes, I'd just change the filter and dump the old oil.

Yep, do most of my huinting in Gore-Tex. I'll buy that.

As far as the oil compartment, pardon my neglect, but I didn't realize there is a filter in there. Is it a screen filter ? Where is it ? and... prior to replacing filter, should I clean compartment with gas/kerosene/ or some other cleaner ?

Thanks.

OK, now I'm even more curious

Thanks for the info on the vent. Now why in the world are there set scres in a plastic vent tube ? Can you give me an idea on how to clean the apparatus and "set" the set screws ?

The screw threads aren't fully engulfed by the tube, so you end up with a long thin spiral passageway.  Look around in your toolbox for a suitable driver to reach into the tube and engage the screw, then back it out.  I've never fished one out, but I'd imagine it'll take a small Allen wrench.
