OK, I got this response from Husqvarna Japan....

so it looks like I'm out of luck, they say that as the saw has not been sold for over 20 years, they cannot supply parts.

I'll have to bodge it, unless someone here knows where I can get my hands on some parts for the old saw.

Cheers!

I cant translate japanese, so could you please give a translation? for the old husky parts, other than probably europe, or the US, I think you'll have a pretty hard time finding them, somewhat similar to trying to find a brand new 1940 Ford half ton in showroom condition.

Thanks LM, sorry about the Japanese, sometimes I forget....

I asked if they could supply parts for the saw.

They answered that as the saw is over 20 years old, Husqvarna HQ does not have parts, so they cannot supply them.

OK, fine, but you car example is not really true.

This saw was made in 1976, not 1946, big diff.

Want to bet you could go to most auto parts stores and buy a sparkplug for a 1976 Ford F150?

I need some simple things, the most basic is the spark plug wire from the coil to the sparkplug, the cap on the end of the wire, and a spare spark plug.

I find it VERY hard to believe that a sparkplug wire from a newer (less than 20 year old!) Husky saw would not work. We even phoned them to say so, but the answer was "Sorry, the saw is too old, we cannot get parts!"

Oh well, I'll spend my money at a motorcycle shop and get what I need.

Disappointing that they gave up so easily, but it is a symptom of the culture here.

Cheers!

You can use any wire or plug cap.
The plug is availeble at your dealers, just say what model you have.

Yes, I've got some sparkplug wire here from a dirt-bike, and an old plug cap of a similar kind, should work.

I don't know why they did not want to sell me a spark plug...?

Cheers!

Probably they dont want you to run such an old unit when they can sell you a brand new one and make more money off of it.

Well, for what they want for a new one, I could buy enough hardwood to last a very long time :D

I tried the motorcycle stuff, but it was a bit too big, I'll get some stuff from the scooter shops, that should work fine.

Cheers!

The dealers should have this by the meter, and they have plug's I am sure.
If not let me know I send the stuff to you.
The Lady at the post office smiles every time I come and say"Hello Mange more chainsaw stuff?"
I trade with other collectors so she notised I come now and then I guess...

That is a very kind offer, I'll keep it in mind, but I'm sure I can figure this out with some bike stuff, it is, afterall, just a 2-smoke engine :D

Cheers!

5 or 7mm ignition wire ought to work

I've got the 7mm it would work, but the cap I have with it is a bit to big to fit under the cover.

I'll get the smaller stuff and be on my way to the woodlot!

But, not today or tomorrow, I guess Wednesday. We are sending our two daughters to Canada to my parent's place for Christmas holidays, while we slave away here in Japan at the liquor shop.... ;)

Cheers!
