Hello to all,

I've been lurking for a while, collecting info on saws. I grew up running Jonsereds in New Hampshire, and now that I find myself needing a saw again I am looking to return to my roots. Trouble is, Jonnys aren't too popular out here where I live now in Oregon. I'm looking for an older Jonsered. I'm looking for something with a chain brake, 3/8" pitch, and as early as possible. If anyone is looking to unload something similar, please let me know.

Thanks,

-D

Hello,

How old of Jred are you looking for. I noticed you said you wanted one with a chain brake. That would not be a very old saw at all. I will have a XB and XD to sell soon if you are looking for some older saws

I guess I should have said "Old-ish Jonsered". I'm looking for something late 70's to mid/late 80's. I'm trying to keep the Husqvarna influence to a minimum. ;)

True that. Not quite what I'm going for just yet. Give me a few months to let this CAD thing fully develop. ;)

@sawfun : I'm in NW Oregon, west of PDX.

The 52E has the same optional chain brake system as the 70E, correct? Does your saw have this? Also, do you know if the chain pitch can be swapped out to 3/8" on the 52E? For a saw of that size, I'm thinking a .325 chain on a 16" bar will be more than adequate, but one never knows. How's the compression?

And of course, what are you asking?

I am in Portland so delivery is not a problem and this saw has a 15" bar and 3/8 with a rim sprocket. But sorry, no chainbrake. My buddy has one with a chainbrake but its not for sale. Saw looks and runs good.

Hmmm. That would be a pretty fine saw to start my collection. I'm sure a brake could be added......eventually......

PM me a price?

Well this ones pretty nice. My buddies is ported and pulls a 24" with 3/8 unbelievably well. Especially since it is only 49cc's. It does what most modern 60cc saws won't. I dunno who built it as it was his dad's saw that was bought new in 1977 and he still has the paperwork. Was well over $300 then. The build was likely done in the 70's. A 52 will beat a 028 super, I can tell you that. It'd probably put the hurt on a 10-10 Mac as well. If I keep this one I will send it to Randy. Ported, they are that impressive.

I don't know as I'd be looking to race it out anytime soon. I'd probably be starting with a slightly longer bar and piecing together the components for the brake. I'd love to see a picture and an asking price....

Gotcha. I'm out in Hillsboro. Whereabouts are you in Portland? I could pretty easily drive into town on an evening after working hours. We may be heading up to Hood for the 3-day weekend. Would Monday work? Or do you have to work the holiday?

Monday could work. I am in southeast Portland and could meet you. Weekdays I am not home till 11:00 pm. I have a couple other larger Jonny's of the same era to show you.

Awesome. I'd love to get my hands on a 70E, 455, 625, or 630.

I'll be planning for Monday.

Thanks!
