Hi, I'm new to the forum but it seems like I have found the right place to get some sound advice.
From reading through some threads I realise that I am overdue a bar and sprocket change. I use the saw mainly for clearing brush and cutting firewood, I've had it a few years now, and have changed the chain a few times but never the bar or sprocket. I can see wear on both now, and can't use the saw for long without the chain needing adjustment, so its not a happy camper at the moment.

My problem is that I'm finding conflicting pitch sizes for my saw on the web. I see both .325" and 3/8" bars listed but can only see 3/8" sprockets available for replacement. However I suspect that the current sprocket is .325" because the distance between 3 links on the chain is slightly less than .75" Is this correct?

My question is this. If I purchase the 3/8" sprocket will it fit my saw or should I try and find a .325" sprocket? I have a fairly new chain that fits the current sprocket, but probably need to replace all in one go and start fresh, so if it was possible I wouldnt mind switching the saw to 3/8" pitch

Thanks in advance, Hope I haven't confused everyone :dizzy:

P.S Can anyone recommend a good online store with international delivery?

Damian: You can do a more accurate determination of pitch by measuring the total length of 5 drive links. Pitch is defined as one half the drive link spacing, so 5 drive link lengths (with chain stretched out straight, measure to the sharp points of the drive links) equals the pitch times 10. For 3/8" pitch, you will get 3.75", and for .325 pitch, you will get 3.25". I am guessing the 940 is a 40cc saw, so 3/8" pitch most likely means 3/8 Low Profile (LP). Either should do fine, just make sure that drive sprocket, chain, and nose sprocket on bar are all the same.
