ChainLightning
Vintage Saw Stalker
Got this one a few weeks ago. When I got it it seemed to run fine. But when I took it out into the woods (without cutting anything with it yet) it just seems to bog under no load.
First of all, the chain brake on this saw is disabled. All that is there is the handle, but all of the other parts to it are not installed. So the brake is out of the question.
I cold started the saw and let it idle up for about a minute (chokes off), and the hit the gas and all it does is bog under no load. When it boggs the chain will spin slow enough for you to count how many times it goes around. So I shut off the saw and used a different one. Later I came back to the Olympyk and fired it up and the chain spinned at full speed and worked like it was suppose to....but when I got it just above the log that I was gonna buck, it started bogging again when I gave it full throttle. I am really not sure what is wrong here. The chain is at the correct tension and the sprocket tip spins good. You can also spin the chain by hand, but it pulls just a little stiff.
I took off the clutch cover and bar and chain and the plastic piece that covers up the brake assembly seems to be rubbing against the sprocket but it does not seem like it is rubbing that bad. you can spin the sprocket free with it rubbing, but when you take off the plastic piece it spins a little easier. I included some pics of it. This saw is very similar to a lot of Husky's and Poulans that I have worked on.
(Also is the clutch cover suppose to be gaped that far out from the crankcase? looks like a 1/8 of a inch. Bar nuts are are tight as they can go) Thanks View attachment 260590View attachment 260591
