What do you guys think of Oregons equipment, parts etc.?

I see their stuff all over and have used some of it but not enough to come to form an opinion.

They are better than before Oregon bought Silver Streak.

It depends on what parts you are after and the application

I've always considered their bars to be a bit "iffy", but am really happy with a 42" PowerMatch I bought for milling. It has held up very well, wearing much less than the 36" Oregon I use as my "short" milling bar. I'm quite happy with it.

Chain? Not bad. I prefer Carlton or Stihl since the cutters are harder, but Oregon holds up fairly well and is affordable. Not a bad tradeoff. I don't use it for milling, but for crosscutting I'm okay with it.

Rims and drums are fine. No problems.

Have you tried the new LGX Oregon oldsaw? It is much better and SHARP out of the box which was a surprise to me when I first tried it

They make good stuff and I use it all the time if I can get deals on it from Bailey's.

Pretty much standard around here, most hardware stores and EVERY small engine shop has a few rolls of Oregon chain. Two of my saws run Oregon chain and I also have a power match bar on one of my saws that does all I ask of it.

I like the selector on their website, really helps to determine # of links and what not.

Stihl has excellent stuff, but I'm kinda cheap-Carlton, I haven't seen it in this area for years, but my Dad used to run it. I may have to get a loop online just to compare.

Oregon ??????????/

I buy all brands just like to support American companys, Oregon is headquartered in my state. also i have family members that works for Blount Industries so i am more likey to buy Oregon products. Stihl and or Carlton and or Oregon. it is in my beers monie to buy chains or bars that dont make my all ready tough job harder. a saw not cutting will cost me more money and time than i am willing to waste.:chainsaw:

No, I haven't yet. Last time I checked with a local dealer, he still had the old stuff yet. Want to try it out, will have to order a loop or two. I guess it is getting closer to Carlton hardness. Yeah, I didn't address "sharp out of the box", that wasn't a really consistent thing either. I always sharpened them before using them, unlike the others.

I find oregon chain out of the box isn't very sharp the bars are all right but the tips tend to blow apart if you do alot of bore cutting.

I have used it a bit, pretty good chain, but it doesn't have the low vibe chassis of the LP and Stihl RSC - obviously vibes more - not that it bothers me (or my wife) much.....

Oregon bars are perfectly OK with me, but I prefere the Stihl ones (chain also), if I have a choise......

It is my understanding that Oregon Powermatch bars are being fitted with 6 rivets in the sprocket replacing the current 5 rivet pattern to help keep the tip from blowing apart. I haven't come across one yet but they should be making their way to the dealers.

I thought that most people on the site would have already used the bars and chains and was talking about the aftermarket parts line that used to be Silver Streak.

To Oregons credit they have a current recall on the Snapper replacement lawnmower blades that have been prone to breaking for some time and Silver Streak before Oregon did little about it.

Down here, the 'normal' oregon 3/8 chizel chain as used on stihl 360's 440's 460's etc.. as well as the Husky's, - it's goddam blunt when new! The rakers need filing before ya can even use the sh**t! Outrageous! The equivalent stihl chain is always sharp 'outta the box'. As for oregon bars, how the hell oregon or whoever they call themselves are still in business - I'll never know. Their bar tips are suspect and dodgy, 'specially the small ones, I've watched oregon tips on husky 335's burn out and seize within one day of brand-new. MANY times! The worst thing ya can do is pump grease in there, mixed with fine sand or grit it creates a wonderfully effective grinding paste.. I'll never go near an oregon bar again..

Like I said, I prefere Stihl, when I can get it in the right pitch and gauge - but Oregon is perfectly OK - but need a bit more attention.......:yoyo: :yoyo:

I admit I inevitably end up buying oregon chain 90% of the time, because - yep, it's cheaper, does the same job and cuts well... just an extra hassle filing the drags from new..

In our area the only folks using Stihl bars and chains are those that bought a Stihl saw and don't know that OREGON makes a bar and chain to fit the Stihl saws.

In fact. Right now OREGON has a deal on combos. Buy a bar and chain combo and get the second chain absolutely free (Stihl only).

We don't have a huge amount of loggers but arborists and wood cutters are all over the place. The big issue is that a Stihl loop for an 18" 3/8 saw is going for nearly $30.00. While we are selling OREGON LGX loops for $1.00 per bar inch in 3/8 pitch.

I love OREGON / OEP aftermarket parts. Very very few parts that I won't or cannot use. Mostly because we cannot order OREGON parts to replace Briggs parts from our distributor. Otherwise we have had great luck with parts and blades. A little hiccup with some of the Snapper blades but they fixed the issue ASAP. I have NEVER seen a broken OREGON blade or Silver Streak. Overall their stuff is just as good as Rotary, Stens, and any other aftermarket.

i run oregon chain, oregon bars, oregan bar tips, oregon rim sprockets, oregon files, yea, i think that pretty much sums it up. good products, im running 72LGX, I run the rakers were they are are until i sharpen the chain about twice, and then file the rakers. overall good products

Oregon stuff is fine for normal conditions, but coastal forest soon sorts out bar-tips. Talkin' sand. Mind you you're better off running worn out junk or old discarded chains, bars, sprockets and clutch, whatever brand - when it's getting that bad, volcanic ash is a shocker too, fine as talcum powder and abrasive as hell, when the local mountain blew up a few years back, poor ole oregon bars came to a screeching halt in that stuff, not so the stihl bars, still murder on the saw though
