Hi,

I have a Stihl MS290 Farm Boss with 20" bar and 3/8" chain. I recently decided to upgrade from the spur drive drum to the Oregon Powermate Drum and Rim system. Ordered the 34162 from Bailey's and now it doesn't seem to work. It seems that the slot on the drum isn't deep enough to allow it to seat far enough into the clutch so that it will align with the bar.

I have taken some material out with a file and tried to match the depth with the OEM Stihl spur drum. But that didn't help.

Did I get a defective one? Or is there some other trick I am missing?

Thanks!

Evan

I had the exact same problem with one a while back. I set the drum up in a lathe and faced around .020" or so off the rim drive portion to get it to fit. I think they must have had a bad run.

That won't be an option for me so, I guess I will call Oregon or Bailey's tomorrow.

I purchased a 3/8 x 7 rim/drum setup recently from a west coast supplier for an 1127 series saw and the dimensions were off just a bit and it didn't work. when put on a flat surface, it was about 1/16" shorter than oem and that was enough difference to cause an issue. It wasn't an oregon brand. Some no name. Sent it back for a refund.
