Hi all! Great site, been reading posts for a long time, this is my first time posting. Im curious if anybody here is using an Osburn 1800 wood insert? I picked up a brand new unit off Craigslist, should have it hooked up this weekend. The size seems to be about right for my house, I'll be heating about 1000 sqft. Any best practices with these stove inserts?

I like it - I have an older 1600 stove that does much better than you could expect (set up in basement of 3K s.ft) I hardly ever run oil burner...

Mind if I ask how much vs new? Been thinking about an insert for FP on main level which I burn for "fun" as it really is just a big heat dump out - even w/ glass doors. Still like looking at it :) As you have discovered AS is a great resource!!

I've got the 2200 insert and it does the job for our house. We're heating 1700 ft or so and we use fans to get the heat from one end of the house to the other. If it were centrally located it would be better, but oh well. With dry wood and a hot pipe and this stove does great. Secondaries are perhaps a little too unristricted so if you get it burning too hot it isn't always easy to bring back down. I don't know if the 1800 is that way or not. There's a way to fix that if it is. It took me a few seasons to get a feel for burning it just right. Any way, I think you'll like it. Should be fine for 1000 sq ft

Sorry I disappeared for the past month... I installed the 1800 3 weeks ago, and couldn't be happier! It's on the main floor of my house, and puts out more than enough heat for my 1800 sqft house. Only concern is pipes in basement - I have been letting the oil burner kick on for a few hours each night. I found this unit on Craigslist about an hour away for $200. It was missing some parts, but was a new (never installed) unit.
