(anti rust stuff) I would use what the maker of the stoves says. Ifs its homemade and made out of mild steel use an about or 400 to 700 PPM of sodium nitrate, if you use to much then it starts to screaw with the pump parts.
I know very little people use anti freeze becuz of the price and the anti-freeze does not work as well as water does.

outdoor wood furnace antifreeze

ok i got a price for the antifreeze $75 for 5 gal :jawdrop:
what is this sodium nitrate stuff and how long is it good for ? and where could i get it from?
thanks

antifreeze

Antifreeze does'nt transfer the heat as well as plain water, if you do use it make sure that it is safe for human consumtion as it also heats your domestic hot water.
If you keep the furnace hot you shouldn't need the stuff.

No antifreeze here

We do not use antifreeze in our Empyre 450. Too expensive. But we did install a backup generator to keep the system running in the likely event of a power failure. You really don't want to lose power some night when it's -10 degrees with the wind blowing and freeze everything up.

We found a 30 kw onan ( propane ) with only 200 hrs of run time. Looks brand new. We just finished up installing the transfer switch and ran a test through the house load. It runs everything...all at the same time, electric dryer, electric stove , freezers, lights, pumps, circulators and there is power for more.

Maybe we will start piping in methane from the sawdust pile and become a " Utility". :hmm3grin2orange:

Find an central boiler dealer near you, and tell them you want some of it and its like $35 a gallon thats with the nitrate and the the anti-sludge. How many gallons is your wood boiler?

That idea of pipeing the methane is allways a good idea, I havnt done enough looking around but I know they make them for the farms but all the sawdust we have we could do alot of it. have you looked in it before.

Methane

I have not really had the time to try getting the methane from the sawdust pile yet. But we have everything in place now to experiment with it. Generator, fuel source, etc. I also have a gasification wood furnace, an Essex wood Boiler, that I could get up and running to extract the gas. Ive' seen it done to run a lawnmower engine but the gas was so hot it ruined the carburator. I would have to get it cooled down and stored some how.

As son as firewood season slows up I will get into it . You have any ideas on the subject?

antifreeze

The water in the owb is a closed curcuit , it never touches your drinking water.
