Thinking on installing a new outdoor furnace in Ontario Canada. Prices here are $$$ thinking on driving south of the border and bringing one home .What is the opinion on the central boilers ?? Going to heat roughly 2 floors total 4000 sq. ft .. starafoam walls in basement and 2x6 upper floor and blown in attic.. any ideas where a good place to pick one up> some place near the Ontario border , or where I could avoid the sales tax..thanks in advance.

Mine is a new freedom out of Pennyslvania 36x30 firebox Forced Air With my Oil as a backup although I have yView attachment 76445et to use it. I have a large Cape Cod House works fine for that house and I am 12 miles from the southern shore of Lake ONtario

thanks for the quick reply and the info... nice looking place.

Thank-you on the compliment. Just wanted to show you the size of the house I am heating. Previous owner used 10-15 cord depending on winter. This will be my first winter, however my father has been using a New Freedom For quite some time. He is in Northern Pa. HIs House is a little smaller about haLF THE SIZE ON AVERAGE HE USES 8-10 CORD and burns year round. Heats his hot water with it. He likes green wood for his. Claims it shuts down better.

Just out of curiousity, will you have to pay the customs duties when you bring it across the border?
I bought a pair of skis one year at a skiing resort in Vancouver, and when I crossed the border back into the states I had to fill out some forms and pay the duties on the skiis based upon the purchase price. The great deal that I got turned out to be not such a good deal.

I live in the thumb of Michigan and I bought a Central Boiler and I like it really well. I have a dealer 20 miles away and his service is great. For your sq footage I would recommend the CB 6048, although if your house is really well insulated you may be able to get the smaller size the 5036. How do you heat your house, forced air, baseboard, radiant? Let me know if you have any ?s.

I know two guys who have CB. They really like them. What I don't like about them is they do not have a combustion fan. I think a forced air system burns a little cleaner and hotter. I'm sure I will get a rebuttal but just my two cents (I have a Woodmaster and like it pretty well.)

A fan is one of the options for central boiler,I tried one on mine the first year and did'nt think it was needed.I kind of feel like that it blows a lot of heat out the chimney too,mop

I agree, with the stack being in the back a lot of the heat would go out the chimney. Is it the Heatmor that has the stack in the front? the fan works with that design.

Okay just checked -no duty - but have to pay g.s.t. and p.s.t. since the furnaces are American made , the reason for the two taxes is to help protect the canadian dealers .. the next thing is where I purchase the stove will be the state tax...... have not figured these out yet of what tax per state that is not to far away from the border.. thanks

If you purchase a CB at the state fair you will pay a combination of state and county sales taxes for the purchase the other problem AKA the 800 pound gorilla in the room is warranty service.:dizzy: :givebeer:

Yep. Convection will do the venting just fine, and too much air gets blown in with a fan. In my experience with a CB for 3 years here in Oregon, installed by ourselves, it is working fine and will have paid for itself in less than 2 more heating systems. Mild winters here in OR conpared to there, but the house has so many windows and skylights, and 6 (cout 'em) sliding glass doors. No way to compartmentalize the house to heat just sections either. The CB compensates for a bad home heating design, with lots of free wood. And that is with the smallest model that they had at the time.

Count on burning a lot of firewood in it though. They digest a lot of wood in trade for the heat.

Hmmm, no sales tax in Oregon or New Hampshire. I am not sure if there are any other sales-tax-free states out there. We paid zero tax on our CB in Oregon. No problems with the carbon steel box (zero rust), only had a controller go out and the damper bent as a result, and they replaced both of them for free under warantee.
