I am having problems with recovery time on hot water heater. Heat exchanger is properly sized shell and tube attached to existing oil fired tank. I have had oil shut off for almost a year with no problems, however the recovery time seems to getting slower and slower. Boiler water is 175 and I am certain that circulating pump is operating. I have tried bleeding air from top of exchanger and have tried adjusting mixing valve with no luck. Any one have any ideas ??

Thanks

How good (or bad) is your water?

I had a Heat exchanger plug all the way up in 20days. This was a flat plate but your might be doing the same thing.

Bad water

yes - could be the water. There is no softener . Is there an easy way to determne if it is plugged ?
