I'm looking for a way to make a few bucks on some evenings and weekends and have had thought about doing stump grinding/removal. I would eventually like to have the skills needed to be a full fledged arborist but I work 40 hours a week now and only have weekends free mainly. Is it feasible to make a decent side income just grinding stumps? How much money is realistic to expect from a weekend of work? Is there enough work out there to support something like this? Is there a niche for this? I have a neighbor who is a foreman for a tree care company and he seems to think there is money to be made for what I'm talking about. Any help, comments, thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated. I just had my second child and the wife is going to stay home full-time now and I need to bring in some more loot!!! Thanks!

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. Now that you mention it, though.....that is interesting.

I was just noting the fact that the search doesn't work anymore. :D

Newbie, I don't know about your local market. If you have a tree guy friend who wants you to go into this that is probably a good sign-he evidently has work to send your way. You can reasonably expect to gross $500 for a full day's work on a Saturday. You will also probably have a couple hours of bidding weekday evenings that went into that $500.Fduel, wear and tear and tooth replacement will bite probably 25% out of that. The real question is how many Saturdays can you fill with work. If you are in a large city you may have all you want-that will depend on competition etc.

Since he has not responded or reposted since 2001, I am guessing he went for the grinder and is swamped with work.
:D
