Well, shortly after supper tonight I finally had my weekends work done:( so decided to split the cases on the 5000.The hang up is the oil pump drive gear.I assume this is pressed on to the crank and would take a special tool to remove. If this is the case,is the tool available to the average person and would it fit a variety of models? If so,I'd sooner buy one and have it but if not I could get the dealer to remove it.Maybe there is some other way to do it?Sorry to appear so ignorant but cars are my living, motorcycles my hobby and chainsaws mostly new to me.Thanks,

AF

The pump gear is removed and fitted by using special tool 505 381816. The tool is threaded onto the gear which is pulled off the shaft top with the aid of the tool.
Screw the pump gear in the tool and press it onto the shaft so that the outer edge of the gear is located 1 mm below the shoulder.
Note: If the pump gear is pressed in too deeply, this can damage the seal.

This is out of my service manual, i have never had the pleasure of this yet. Good Luck.

The tool is only for the partner 5000,500, jred 490,590, poulan 325. Per related saws.
Looks like a socket, with a T-handle going through it, in the pic.
