Partner 5000, fresh find in a Stihl Dealership. Starts on it's own but will not idle or run-up well. The fuel line that's in it is not wide enough to close the tank hole. I have not done anything to the saw except start it for a minute. The point on the chain tensioner is missing, and that's all I can spot. Has a B&C that I assume fits it.

Please PM me with an offer or a question... thanks

That's a hell of a good saw Bill. A good one will take a 346.

If I didn't have five or six now I'd be all over that.

Thanks to two of my favorites, Murphy and Chris!

I bought a carb kit for it, the metering diaphragm is rotted. It's missing the fuel vent, that's why it's spilling when rolled on to the recoil side. Wigglesworth wants it.....

I bought a foley model 308 grinder with the foot pedal too. No wheels though, new bearings and a good motor.

Ok, Bplust, my new friend and used parts supplier booed me for posting the saw dirty, I knew that if I started in on it I'd keep it.

So I cleaned it, tested the compression, popped the muff, and I'm keeping the saw. I'll run a thread on it later. Right now I have a 268/272 split on my bench, a basket case 385xp on the way and I bought a really nice 261 on ebay today... it's going to be a 262xp, I have most of the parts here and the rest are on the way including a 3 shoe clutch.

I don't really have a good 50cc saw anyway, just an 026.....

Thanks

This saw and it cousins (490/590/325) were way ahead of the time. They are only slightly heavier than the 346, handle as well, and are a little stronger in stock configuration. I love my 5K+ and if it was ported, I'd probably run it as much as a ported 346. I've been told from a well known builder that the 5K+ can be made to out cut a ported 346.

The oil cap looks a little different to me ? Maybe set up as a concrete / cutoff saw ?

The piston looks ok, compression at 125 cold though. I ordered a caber ring for it from the Greek. He also had a tensioner setup for a bigger partner so I got that too. I'm hoping the point is tapped to fit the tensioner bolt in the partner as it's quite large, almost twice the size of a Husqvarna 262 tensioner bolt.

I cobbled together a fuel tank vent using a piece of tubing and a fine thread set screw inside (Stihl style). It will be cut down to inside the cylinder cover tube. You can see it in the photo, seems to work but I'm sure that gasoline will eat the vinyl tube quickly but I'm using non-ethanol in my saws.

Notice how it matches my cheapo home depot utility knife?

Bill, that compression is WAY low for that saw. They typically run around 185-190psi.

I would check that piston carefully as the skirts may be worn enough to be out of spec.
Yeah. I've got two that are close to 200 psi.
