I recently bought a Premark 310 chipper. It runs well but the feed roller is worn so it doesn't grab as well as it should. Is there anyone that has parts for the chipper? If not is there anyway the feed roller can be reconditioned? Thanks

What I’ve done in the past is if enough metal is left on the teeth of the in feed roller is to go in with a small angel grinder and restore the teeth to a nice sharp edge. Typically this can be done once or twice then you run out of steel. If this happens , I sharpen the appropriate size of bar stock and weld to the roller. Either way I’ve never had to pull the roller for this reason. Make sure whoever welds this has good enough skills cause if a tooth comes loose and goes through the machine it’s a really bad day

Thank you for the reply. I had thought of having someone weld teeth on ,but like you mentioned the idea of a piece of metal going through the chipper is quite scary and expensive. There is enough metal to try the angle grinder route. I was thinking I would need to take the roll off and then take it to a machine shop, but the idea of being able to work on it while it is still in the chipper would save me a lot of headache. Do you sharpen on one side of the tooth or both sides? Thanks again for your response.

Before you go further, let’s make sure we’re on the same page-this is the feed wheel on a disc chipper correct? Not the actual cutting teeth.
I sharpen back to the angel the factory had, one side. Every feed wheel I’ve ever seen is one side. Cordless grinder works best, there are things you can do to your grinder to make it fit into the small space better, but I can’t share here as it would be telling you to do something potentially dangerous.
As far as welding, nothing a decent welder couldn’t do. It’s made of low carbon, or mild steel, easiest steel to weld, but his time doing this might exceed the cost of a new one.
