Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum. I have a young peach tree that split at a fork from heavy branches and fruit load this past spring. I topped the two branches so they weren't as heavy and then brought the two halves of the fork back together and bound them with wax tape (wax covered paper). several months later I noticed the tape splitting and I removed it. I now see that there is quite a bit of sap oozing from along the split even though I can also see some healing. Is this oozing something I need to worry about? Or would it be considered normal under the circumstances? Thanks

Sometimes this leakage is caused by borers, but on a very young tree it is likely to be a graft that has not closed completely,or the split has compromised the graft..if there is a graft, Coupled with the high sap pressure Hose off the gel and look carefully around the base of the tree. If you do not see borer holes you are in the clear. Just leave the tree alone and it will heal itself....maybe.You did right by pruning excessive weight from heavy fruit load. You might try wood props under branches to relieve pressure on the compromised split.
