I like My Petzl Grillon on many levels , rugged , ease of use under load , ect
You can see the Bad nick I had today , (this line is done).
Question is can You run A steel core thru one of these Grillon's
or are they just for soft braid.

ie: I should have been more careful I was in a tight
spot , cramped. You Know what Im talk'in about.

Options....?

Thanx Night Owle.........

get a new lanyard

the grillon may not work with a wirecore. who cares, knots are better. better even for you, you already own a twisted clevis which is perfect for a slack tender.

A+ DonnyO stop using the grillion as a lanyard its just to big!! a better use for its app is a belay devise to run up a tree with hooks. to answer your Q about a wire core in the grillion the answer is no it will kink the core.

I doubt you could even get your wirecore wrapped around the Grigri cam and close the gate.

An addition, more than an edit...

Try a Gibbs-type camming device. Petzl makes them, too, among others. They work great with a wirecore. The purpose of a wirecore for me, and the guys I work with, is their solid connection when you're using a chainsaw. It's to provide a slightly better piece of "rope" for chainsaw use. (I have cut straight through them, though, so they're not chainsaw-proof, in any way). I use it for spurring up trees while removing, and also for a lanyard during general pruning. I find it so much easier and efficient to have one piece of gear that does multiple things rather than having to switch out stuff on my saddle according to every single tree that I encounter. I rarely find a tree that I can't work with using just a single rope (sometimes using both ends) and a wirecore with a Gibbs.

You can just replace that rope with another 11mm rope. I have the grillon as well as my brother and I have spliced up velocity for his and blaze for mine and both run smoothly through. You can also tie termination knots with your rope snap to hold it on. You don't need the kernmantile rope and it doesn't have to be spliced or sewn or any of that stuff. there's like 2 screws you take out and boom you're ready to install your new rope.
