Has anyone tryed out the petzl ascenders? And do you have to use the Croll with the Ascenders, or can you use them without it?

Um, you mean hand ascenders right?

I am going to get a CMI hand ascender (better egronomics lookin and made in the US not France) even though I use petzel biners.

You dont have to use a croll with them. You must have at least 2 tie ins to the rope that connect to your saddle.

I went to a Mountain climbing store here in town (its the only store within 6 hours that has anything to be used for tree climbing) and the guy working said that i had to buy both the right and left hand ascenders and tape them together. Then i would have to buy a chest harness and attach the Croll to my chest harness and my saddle. But i was just wondering what i could use to make ascending easier.

Tom, that book, while I have it and enjoy it, is 75 bucks. Why not use this free source here?

TG, will you be climbing SRT or DRT?

I reccomend the ISC ascenders, while you're looking at them. Very stout. I think you can see them on the Yates website.

They have the best handle of any I've seen thus far.

I don't think that OR is $75, it seems to me it's closer to $40. Pound for pound one of the best deals for dollars to knowledge.

There is of advice given here that is missing some key details. If someone is new to ropes they should have a solid base of knowledge from experts.

Nice, I bought if from Sherrill for 75 bucks I think. (edit) Sherrill has it for 40 bucks now I see.

Like I said (or ment to) that is an awesome book. I periodically get it out and read it cover to cover.

I think it and tree climbers companion would be good prerequistes for posting climbing questions here.
