Another near miss. Saw these as I was splitting.

Silver maple for a customer. Yes, I cut it down with a 6" folding saw. Took me almost an hour! (That's why my stump looks so bad).



Cut down a small standing dead tree for that same customer on a different property. I didn't know what it was until I saw all that yellow goodness inside!!

I know what it is, but I'll not say in case a few of you want to guess. Sorry, that's the only pic I have.

Had a near miss myself not too long ago. After hauling some maple and oak home I decided to get a jump on the splitting and busted open an oak round and found the tell-tale blue wood inside which meant metal was somewhere nearby. Found the nail which had been pounded into the tree decades earlier, unfortunately, so did my fiskars. Thankfully it wasn't a direct hit to the edge of the axe. More like a glancing blow.....

I don't know what the yellow means? Care to enlighten my ignorance?
 
I don't think we have any Osage orange around here. If we do, I've never come across it.
