I have a Pioneer 1074 That runs great when wide open. The problem I have is that it desn't want to return to idle quickly. Sometimes it will take 4 or 5 seconds (or more) to return to idle once I close the throttle. Other times it will surge slowly up and down at idle. Yet another problem is that it will sputter out and die when I accellerate it from idle, after it has returned to idle. No combination of mixture screws will help, and the carb gaskets are all good. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check the throttle plate shaft for play.If it is too worn it will allow air to get in and no matter how you adjust the carb it'll change. Also make sure your carb mounting screws are tight.

I do have a set of crank seals, and maybe I'll just have to change them. I'm not too sure if I'll have to disassemble the cases but we'll see...
