A guy called wanting some firewood, I said I got you covered, no problem.
He shows up in a 1980 Ford F250 4x4 that looked like it was just driven off the showroom floor.
100% original everything, including paint. The paint looked like a new paint job, but he said it was original.
He bought it off a widow where it sat in a garage for the past 25+ years. After her husband died she never drove it. It had 18 thousand original miles. Said he paid 3 grand for it.
Not a Ford fan but it was a nice treat to see one that had not nary a scratch on it.
The only thing he did to it was put in a spray in bed liner.
I almost didn't want to throw wood in that clean dent free bed.
There was no rust or dents anywhere, and it had all the original trim as well.
He said it had never been restored. It sounded like it ran like new.
Wish I could find a deal like that.

That guy owes the widow another 3 grand.

He did get a great deal, but we don't know the back story.
He could have been a family friend or family member, or he could have been a big help to that lady over the years.
At her age, she may not have long to live and felt it should go to someone she thought should have it.
He was about 25/27 years old and may have been a collage student.
I have given good deals to those that I thought should deserve it.
Besides, she may be loaded and didn't need the money.

You did the right thing. Ford trucks are made for work. You and the guy made this old Ford truck's day.

I did recommend he take a trip to Tractor Supply and get one of those 1"rubber trailer mats that are used in horse trailers, to help protect against dents in the bed. Spray in bed liner dose not protect against dents.

I think what impressed me the most was no rust anywhere. We all know the 70's were not famous for quality steel for auto body's.
Almost everything from that era had rust issues.

Love hearing stories like this.

In 2000 I picked up a 79' F150 that was owned by a farm auction company. The motor was shot because it would idle all day long at auctions to provide power to the camper they used as an office. Also the hood was wrecked as it had thrown a fan blade at some point.

Being driven only in the summer it was nearly flawless besides the hood.

My BIL dropped in a 400 reman long block, new wheels, and we painted up a clean hood I had on hand. I had $3500 into what was virtually a new truck.
