I got this 025 at a Sthil dealer for junk price, needed the chainbrake handle for my 021. After robbing the handle off it I had to see if it would run, had spark,150lbs compression, started to get a little excited, put some mix in and away it goes, I should have know something wasn't quite right as the bearing for the sproket was toast, scrounged a bearing, put the sproket back on only there was no wire for the oiler, hmm now something is definately wrong, get clutch off and see this mess.

Looks like someone didn't know the difference between a chain saw and stump grinder. I think that is the oiler in the middle of this mess. In addition to the melted plastic there was a ton of dirt.

THats what happens when some numb nuts dont know what a chain brake is and keeps on revving the saw. ive seen alot like that.

In my quest for porting victims, I came across this other 025 at another dealer, this one was so clean you could eat off it, only this one had a fried engine. Swapped engines, polished up the ports good,(not brave enough quite yet to experiment with actual porting on a good engine ), opened the muffler up , new bar and chain (RS) with 7 tooth rim.

For about a $100 bucks total I got a decent 025. Must have done somthing right with this one did a few timed cuts in 12" Oak beat the other 025 we have by a full five seconds.

This hopping up saws is going to get addicting, real quick.

Jacob,

That is the game plan, right now I'm doing some shopping for the right tools and doing more research here on the site and where ever I can find info. My biggest problem right now is time to actually sit down and get the feel for it, I'll get there sooner than later.:D

just remember to keep track of what you did to the ports write it down and time the saw on a dry log because dry wood will be more consistent over a few days time than green wood also dont make the ports wider than the piston skirt raise the exhaust and lower the intake also raise the transfers if you can dont go to far the first time and also DONT FORGET TO CHAMFER THE EDGES that will kill your piston and rings also might make it peal chrome off the jug good luck and have fun let us know how it goes

I used to use my 025 as a climbing saw but it wouldn't start worth a ???? after hanging from my lanyard. It would always seem to get flooded.
