Am thinking of buying an Alaskan portable mill. Can you use a portable mill in the field-the only way I can get to some of this wood is to cut it in slabs(poplar and oak). Is a 20 inch chainsaw-59cc's adequate for the job(I'm thinking of the 20" Alaskan mill?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I think parrisw is saying that the 59cc saw isn't big enough for the job. It will do it but slowly. An 80cc or larger saw seems to be what the millers like to use. Check out the Milling & Saw Mills subforum.

Alaskan mills are meant to be used in the field.

Yes, that's what I'm saying, sorry for not being too descriptive. I use a 94cc saw, and sometimes want more!!!
