I searched and couldn't find anything. How would one go about affixing a D ring to one for a lanyard?

Note: not a climber here.

There's no provision for a loop, but a guy could do a lot with some paracord wraps and a simple ring I think.
 
Only trouble is that little bugger doesn't have a chain brake on it so I would be constantly starting it in the tree, something about having a chain moving near me but I can't grasp it.
 
Just use a sling and girth hitch it.
I was climbing before chain brakes were invented, and though we were trained to shut off our saws before moving in the tree, none of use did. But you have to make sure your saw lanyard is long enough that the chain is below you when it hangs. This applies to single trunk conifers. Moving around in the crown you'd be better off turning that sucker off.
