I purchased this saw new when Hugo passed through NC almost 33 years ago. I would estimate the saw has less than 30 hours run time. I starts (eventually) when spraying ether in the intake and pulling the starter rope 40 or 50 times. It is a great saw but with this issue it sees very little use. I had to take my Stihl in to the dealer for service last week and took my 525 at the same time. The service writer's answer was the same as all others, '' parts are obsolete and there is not much we can do for it''. MY QUESTION: Is there any place, anywhere that can repair this Poulan, everyone will guess it is the carburetor so I feel that is the issue.
Thank you very much!
Jim

Yes, exactly the one.
That link has the carb model and the kit number you need for it. I would replace the fuel and impulse lines with the black rubber Echo line. The yellow tygon doesn't last long as impulse line but will work for fuel line. I would not recommend starting it with ether, instead dribble a little mix down the carb.

Does anyone up around you work on saws of this age?

You should ask your Stihl dealer to do a compression test & possibly a vacuum test.
I think that they could at least do those for you.
Good suggestion, he did a compression test and the results were great.

I really don't know. I've always worked on my own.
Do you know anyone close to Belmont that does this type work. Unfortunately most places here are parts replacers only and don't work on "vintage'' equipment. Thank you for all your replies! JimD

Working on these is not that hard and pretty satisfying one it fires up after all that work.
And stop feeding 2 strokes either use a bit of mix down the carb.
Is this saw not a poulan copy of the pioneer p52? Looks like it.

I don't know anyone in Belmont at all. You can get plenty of guidance on this site. You can probably get a service manual and IPL on the beg for manuals thread.

I cannot seem to locate the link that you sent me, could you please resend. The place that has my saw just called an said that there was nothing they could do with my 525. Said the unit needed a new carburetor and is obsolete.
Your looking for a walbro k10wj rebuild kit pretty easy to find you will need to get new fuel line and filter most likely. That plus a can of carb cleaner and your off to the races.

Hate to keep bugging you folks, but where could I start looking for this kit. I don't want to take the carb, apart, because I have plenty of paperweights already. But, it is almost a you have nothing to loose point. I would buy the entire card, probably because I might stand a better chance of replacing than rebuilding. Thank you all again! JimD

Just about anywhere for that kit but carbtech21 is where I go to for any and all kits. It’s not hard bee screws watch a YouTube video or 2 I started with 1 carb and few months later was doing small engine repair as a side business.

Walbro usually has rebuild manuals on their website. Take pictures as you take it apart to make sure you get the gaskets in the correct order. Use a good fitting screwdriver so you don't mess up the screws.

Thank you all for your helpful comments! I was able to locate a Walbro carb. kit and a shop that would install and tune. My 525 is up and going with the growl that I remember.
Thanks again!!
