i just snagged a poulan pro 655, i think 90 or 100 cc, does anybody have any info on this saw? it has a three foot bar at the moment i am looking to get a 24 inch for it but dont know if that is too small, also does anybody know the bhp on it? any info appreciated, thanks...

They are six Cubes, or roughly 100cc's. Ball breaker of a saw. More torque than anything I have ever ran for the size stock, hands down. You will have problems with the new gasoline with ethanol in it! There is a small "window" that is made of some sort of rubber/plastic between the bar oil and gas tanks. I was told that they sold these for cut off saws as well, and the window could be taken out for more gas capacity. The problem with the new fuel is that it eats this window, making the bar oil spill into the gas. I bought one of the last 10 655's ever made around 1995 for my Dad, and it lasted two months with the new fuel. Hope you have better luck, some don't seem to do it. Three of his have. I got him running a 390xp now, so it's all good but not the same torque.

The window is a small triangular piece of aluminum that is epoxied in place, to repair correctly you have to split the cases although I have done it with out. It is my favorite saw, run an 8 or 9 pin sprocket with that 24 and go have fun.

He had the local shop just do it to no avail...What do you recomend? I said epoxy too!!! They used something else, not sure what.

thanks for the info, i just put a 24 inch bar on it today i had to modify an oregon bar to fit, come to find out oregon only makes a 20 inch bar for this saw, i asked the dude at the shop if he could do the jb weld job on it for me he said he will only replace factory parts as they were, i guess i will have to do it myself, i only know enough to be dangerous...anyways thanks for the info i would have never known untill it was too late...

You will know if the window opens it will run like the choke is on and smoke like nothing you've ever seen. I have learned to drain the gas and oil if they are going to be sitting a long time during hot weather. Thats when it seems to happen.

i was just looking in my gas tank today the oil resivour is suspended above the gas tank it seems to be solid aluminum, i cant feel or see any window, the oil resivour seems really small, however there is a blue gummy substance growing on the top of the tank in a spot, i am assuming it is feul additive build up?

The Poulan Pro 655 [rebadged Pioneer with Partner colors]. Ron Hartill ,7 time world lumberjack champion was sponsored by Poulan in the 1980s and early 90s. In 1988 I competed against him and his "factory special 655" [heavily modded, circle crank etc.] That saw made every saw at the competition look slow. I just tried a minute ago to find the old time sheet from that event but it seems my wife rearranged the library again .:bang:

The window is in the wall between the gas & oil caps, it may be painted over so it's hard to see.

hmmm....mine doesnt seem to be set up that way at all, there is no wall at all between the gas and oil caps, when you look in the gas tank you can see clear to the other side of the saw, and there is an aluminum housing suspended under the bar oil cap, witch lets the oil flow to a resivour that is behind the gas tank rather than beside it, towards the rear of the saw more...maybe poulan made changes down the line somewhere?

I had 1 of these saws for a good long time and I never had bar oil in the gas. It was one he11 of a widow maker.:chainsawguy:

yeah not alot of people do for some reason, it isnt that common a saw, around here anyways, oregon only makes one bar that will fit it without mods, a 20", a little small for 99cc's....the saw you cant find nothin for.....but i still like it the way it is, 24" inch bar, stock saw, screams like a banshee.....

Baileys 2008 master catalog shows a 28 inch oregon that will fit the large p- series saws. Muffler mods are easy, thinner cylinder gaskets ( we used to use grocery bags for gasket material ). Open the throat of the reed valve, file the mounting holes on the coil to advance the spark. All of these are pretty simple but combined they help a lot.
