I picked up an older poulan at the flea this morning. 16" bar

In nice shape, just needs a carb kit & sprocket.

Got it for $10 - I have been getting lucky @ the flea lately

Anyone know where I can get the gasket where the air filter cover goes on ??

It will start & idle all day long, but starves for fuel when you lay into it.

I have never owned, or used one of these polans before.

Any pro's/cons....... Is it worth keeping, or should i put it on ebay when I fix it up ??

Thanks

Mike

What bars will fit on here ?? will the newer poulan bars work.

Anyone know if this one has a chrome cyl., or is it the cheap one.

I pulled the muffler & it looked great inside.

There isn't a gasket for the aircleaner cover. The plastic to plastic makes a fair seal. They are great old saws.

Actually , by the gascap I can tell that yours is older than the ones I ran. Perhaps there is a cover gasket? The more recent ones didn't have one.

This one has a metal cover. the gasket is half there. I got it with the case, 2 chains (both about shot) & the original owners manual. All for the bargian price of $10

The guy told me it did not run. I got it home, put fresh mix in it, primed it & presto. It will idle all day long, just starves when you get into it.

The sprocket is SHOT & it needs a carb kit.

I have been looking in past threads about this saw & am getting a little confused.

This one was made in '77

Is this one of the "Cheaper" ones, or the good ones that everyone was raving about, that has so much power for its size (38cc)

won't run...

Mike,
Probably a plug that is going bad or that already is bad...
Might want to test it out in another saw.

LOL

Jeff, as soon as I get home tommorow, I am going to get a splitfire, quad platinum tip, super turbo, jetfire plug.

Heck, you are a dealer arent you ?? (have heard good things about your business) why don't you just send me one. I'd rather give my money to you than autozone, or wal-mart.

old poulan

Have you checked the fuel line for cracks? A small crack in the fuel line will give enough gas to idle but suck air when you try to gun it. Next would be the carb.

We had (still have) one of the Micro models. You can call it green junk all you want but that saw has been through he'' and still runs. About 17 years ago we were using it to cut lumber on a hog shed. It got left in there for a few weeks and forgotten. We turned hogs into the lot and a few days later I noticed a sow shoving it around in a mudhole. I cleaned it up and it still ran fine. A few years ago I decided to pull it out and see if it still ran. It took a several pulls but in came tio life yet.

The fuel line was mentioned as a possible problem. On ours it ran along the back of the handle and was unprotected. It can easily get damaged.

Thanks for all of the help & info guys..

i was fooling around with this saw over the weekend.

How much compression should this thing have ??

I got right around 100# maybee a tad more (engine cold)

Thought that was a little low.

What will the comp. be warm vs. cold engine ?? Not on this saw, but just genericly speaking??

Will a given engine show a higher, or lower reading when it is warm vs. cold.

I loved my Super25, right until the carb puked on me:angry:
It needs to be rebuilt right now.

Most engines have more compression when warm because the rings expand and seal much better. It is impossible to say how much it varies because every saw is different.

I will give you $20 for it;)
