I know there are plenty past posts to read, I've done so. I just wanted to post the question again to see if there are any new replies from those with recent experience between the two. I will be running a 48" mill.

Thanks

i run a stihl 084 which is in the same cc range as the 088.and have a buddy that runs a 3120 and both saws do very well but it seems the 084 has a lil more grunt on the bottom end torque..either way i don't think you can really go wrong

i have been running an 880(stock), 59'' cannon bar with 404 pitch granburg chain. have the scoring cutters ground @20 deg.,clearing cutters@ 5 deg. with the rakers set @ .20" & .30." been using it in red oak, power isnt a problem!

preferance

1 have cut about 1200 board feet with my 3120 and i have to say it is an awsome saw. A friend of mine has an ms880 and he sais the same of his saw. i think it boils down to prefferance. I dont believe the 880 has an oiler override and i must say that is a nice feature especially with a longer bar. On the other hand the 3120 doesnt have the carb adjustments that the 880 has. the clinker for me is price. where i am a 880 will cost your about $2400 and the 3120 will cost you $1500

both great saws. but beware they are heavy brutes.

my .02 cents

Timberwerks just saw where your located. I'm not sure if your looking new or used and how long you can wait. But if your looking used and keep your eye open on craigslist it seems that 3120's show up at few times a year and can be purchased in the $600-700 range. I know of at least 3 people on this board (including myself) who've done that. Mine wasn't in perfect cosmetic shape but it cuts just fine. For whatever reason I seldom see 880's or 088's.
