I have an 026 pro model(guess it's a 260 now) anyway I changed the carb out for an adjustable model and opened the muffler a bit. My question is can you pull the cylinder gasket on these saws to get a little more power? I've done it with a couple of 346's with good results, any info on the subject?

also another question while I'm on the subject. I'm running 3/8 with an 18" bar would this saw perform better with 3/8 low-pro or .325?

not quite what i meant
the 3120 in to be on gas ,is it going to be a real race saw or something to talk about stuff like that

sawboy i am not sure what you want
a saw for show or a saw that goes
is the saw for doing contest
any rules outthere on fuel
there is alot of stuff we need to know first
yes i build alcohol /nitro saws but if you are looking for gas saws you have Ken Dunn, Dozer Dan, and other guys as well

Sawboy- take the cylinder off your saw and start carving away on those ports with an air die grinder and an assortment of carbide bits. That's how I learned. You can replace the piston with an old sardine can if you feel it's necessary.

gonna modift an 3120.. i got a better understanding ofum since yeserday..
i guess if i was gonna work regular
with that saw id want everything i could get out of it to.. id have to go back 25yrs to use it..the one i saw was setting beside a 372.. i kept looking for the top handle on it,,on the 372.. u cracking me up jacob..:) . now u apparently know a lot more than myself ,,but with that piece,,and at its price ,,id suggest u talk
send it toa builder from this forum ..
then u save u self experimenting on an
very pricy saw.. understand this coming from a fella raisedf with depression era parents. and it stuck to me real good.

I hear you Tony , i know i would not cut trees with one for sure just to da#n big but i cut on the landing last winter with a ported 3120 and liked it , most of the trees were 3 ft to 4.5 ft in diameter
what i see and usually doesnot make sense in my little pee brain head is a stock 3120 turns 9300 to 9600 rpm's in the wood stock and they have a 8 tooth gear on it 3/8 chain
i had a 10 tooth on the ported one plus i am turning more rpm's in the wood so it was worth it to me to use
it was quite abit faster than say a 395 or a 066 but if you donot gear your 3120 a 066 is faster most of the times because it has a 8 tooth gear and turms more rpm's in the wood plus alot lighter

ok guys come on there has got to be hundreds of years of experience here I not asking someone to teach me how to build a hotsaw, I just want to know if it can be done without damage to piston etc.

Sawboy and Treemite- there's literally thousands of posts on this site dealing with modified saws. Do some searches for "Modified saws" "hot saws" "porting" "alcohol" etc.

treemite,

If you use the search function, you'll find scads of discusssions about saw modding, both for work and racing.

Some keywords and builder's names: greffardized, Power Ported, kdhotsaw, dozerdan, Dennis.

sawboy you got the idea somewhat right
what is that jug off of i have an idea but want to be right
i see you left an tap on your intake port for your ring which is a good idea
i cannot tell your porting numbers from a picture but they look quite safe on timing from here
make sure you smooth off those ports edges before you put her together or you are going to have not a great first 10 seconds after she fires up
but keep up your work , who knows you could be the next guru

well u can read everything but the special tech.. section that i put in there..
itsa way yonder too complicated for
most ..
i dont know u saw boy but u can learn a whale of a lot here ,,just take u time ..
an enjoy the site.. theys more than just swapping info going on here ..u at the rite place..:)
