Buddy got stuck in his machine, a John Deer track skid steer, don't recall the size. He ran it out of fuel when the bucket was in the air. Glass door enclosure, bucket is up and no engine power, stuck inside. He exited through the emergency window in the rear. Isn't there a pressure relief valve in the cab somewhere to allow the occupant to lower the boom if needed?

Yup. It's usually to the left and slightly behind the seat on skid steer loaders, and will be marked with a sign with the bucket and an arrow pointing down on most recent model loaders.
