I have been having good luck with my small log mill. But the beam machine just doesn't work for me. The first one had to be returned as it wasn't welded square.

So here are some pictures. I made a couple of cuts with the small log mill and switched to the BM. The cut came out VERY rough. Same chain, I lightly sharpened each cutter between cuts.

Why the rough cut? That is not saw dust on there, its torn wood.

This is the smooth cut

This is the cant on edge with the smooth on the left and rough on the right.

I'll get better pics tomorrow.

Glad to see your posting!! Welcome to the site.

The Beam Machine, does a fairly good job. Have owned one for a few years.

The down side is that the bolt thread allow for lateral movement of the blade when you rock the saw. That does not keep the blade along the same line.

I have thought about replacing the threaded bolt with one that does not allow for lateral movement when I rock the saw.

Hard to see in the pics, are you using a ripping chain???

Good luck.

How do I get these pictures to show up?
After you have attached the pics, hover your mouse over an attachment, right click, and COPY. That puts the attachment link into your clipboard.

Click on the IMAGE icon, the yellow box with a mountain in it. A message box with appear asking you for a link. Right click and PASTE the link into the message box. Like this:

It'll add some code to your post. There's only supposed to be one HTTP in the code, sometimes it adds a second which kills the link, so if you see a second HTTP, delete it.

Regarding the cuts, I looked at all your pics and couldn't see enough detail to tell what was going on, but thanks for trying.

hard to tell but looks to me like some rocking is occurring.

If im not mistaken the BM runs on a 2x4 guide?

try a haddon lumbermaker- or one of the others that runs on a 2x6

but do not use the clamp, its cast iron and wont hold the stress.

the instructions are included for alternate mounting (drill and bolt to bar)

a friend of mine cut up some really nice planks for wall covering, the boards look nice and are no rougher than coarse suede. he used a haddon device.

Good luck
