Hi fellowes.

One of my saws, a jons 2054 have some problems, actually has for some years.

But I am currently motivated to fix it.

Problem:

- When the saw is cold it starts ok, but if it has been stopped for 1 minute or more it will not start anymore no matter what. Nothing helps. Then I have to wait 15-30 min to let it totally cool down(depends on out door temp and saws temp)

- It wont hold idle either. just for about 5-40 seconds then just die. Have to always give some gas to let it survive.

Any easy fix for this saw?

What I have done:
Saws carb has been cleaned with air, but not throughly though.
All adjustment screws has been adjusted, but it wont help. The usable register of LA screw is much narrower than on other saws.
If I turn it 1,5 out, the saw won`t start at all.
Filter is cleaned and nothing else seems wrong.

So, I need some help from some pro...

If the saw want idle and the adjustment screws on the carb don't help. I would be looking for a air leak.

The air leak symptom is correct! That saw and the 2051 had problems with that. They usually leaked around the crankcase half's. If you have a pressure testor it will tell you real quick if that is your problem.

I have now cured the compression issue somewhat. Now I get about 130-140, but it still may be an air leak though. Don`t know what it should be. The compression increased when I tightened the two carb screws really hard and the clamp holding the the carb to the cylinder.

But I still have problems, though different. It`s now sometimes stalling and have an erratic idle. The stalling depends much on what position I hold the saw in.

Saw is 8-10 years old, but has not been used professionally. Never changed anything on it except airfilter and sparkplug.
