This Nissan had a pretty rough life before we got it, but it has developed a pretty annoying problem recently. Take a look at the picture. Notice that the mast section is already rising even though the forks are only about half way up. This problem continues to get worse and worse until we have the mast fully extended even though the forks are as low as they can go.

Now if we take it outside and run it all the way up it resets and functions normally for a while before starting to get off again.

I would appreciate any advice on what might be wrong.

Thanks!

I would imagine one or more of the 2nd stage mast rollers are bound up.Is it a 2 or 3 stage mast?

I would guess it' worn on one side and causing it to bind, I would check the guides and rollers and see if you can find and excessive movement from one side to the other, has it been greased lately? Try greasing the mast really well it might be there is to much drag? My bobcat did that with the quick tach levers until I found the grease zerks one day now the work great!!!
