What do you guys prefer for using a chainsaw - chaps or protective pants ?

greetings from germany

Volker

Pants, chaps are just too bulky and restrict movement. About the only positive for chaps is that they can be put on and taken off quickly over regular jeans. The lighter weight vented chainsaw ants are great when it is warmer.

Guten tag!

saw pants

IMHO and experience, pants provide better protection as they resist being pulled around behind your leg {and exposing your leg} if the chain grabs them.

For long term use, I like pants. If it's around a 1/2 hours work then chaps are nice since the boots do not have to come off.

Of course I do not make those 2-3 ground cuts without either on.

first off i will say i am glad that you WEAR them, cause so many idiots dont wear them, i prefer cahps, just casue they seem to fit me better and i can wear them over carhartts if its cold, and they are cooler when its hott out, and as previously stated, you dont have to worry about what order you put all your clothes on :)

Mark me down as one of the idiots who don't wear either but thanks to all you Arborist site members they will be on my Christmas list this year. I've never felt like I needed them but your stories have convinced me otherwise. I thought I wanted chaps but Jumpers comment about chaps being bulky concerns me. Learned a long time ago not to wear loose clothing around machinery and I'm worried that loose chaps could pose a problem. Can they be tied down securely or are pants just a better idea?

Any and All PPE is good. I know we all forget sometime but why not if PPE could save any Blood Loss Saying its to Hot or its to uncomfortable, won't help for a Hospital stay or with Stitches.
For me I want to Hear my Kids graduate and See my kids graduate, I want to keep all the Body parts I came with and to become a Old Tree guy telling Lies about the Olden day of tree care. "Opps" at 53 I have some of that already
It is Safer than it used to be

ll give ya a real good reason to wear them. i was at a race in medina when the chain decised to come off the awesom 084, if i wouldnt have had them on i can guarentee i would have ended up in the ER, thnkfully i was wearing them, and only ended up with a really gnarly bruise and a very tiny cut, but seriously, i cant imagine what it would have been like without them on!!
