Ive climbed for 13 years, and my question is- how many guys always climb with a pruner pole? Do you for removals ? Do you use to poke your rope and advance your rope to the next crotch, provided you are tied in with your lanyard.? I feel like sometimes it bugs me and id like to climb without it, but its almost like a crutch, you know, just poke your rope instead of climbing to the next crotch. Also do you use fiberglass, wood ? And whats the length of the pruner ?:chainsaw::chainsaw::chainsaw:

The question was actually discussed at length in an earlier thread linked here.

I almost never use one. Occassionally have a ground worker send one up. I have a Silky Hayate that was "accidentally shortened" and I actually like it a lot for use in a tree. With the saw head on it, it is just over 6' long and it extends to about 14 feet.

I use 15' Wolf Garten Aluminum (changeable heads). I only use it when I really need to dont really like them not always easy to get a correct angle when pruning but for takedowns and to prevent going out or up weak limbs its useful. Dont use it to advance rope much. I try to preset my ropes as needed from ground or toss a knot or short throwline when needed. I dont like putting that blade near my rope.

Almost never use one in tree, although is on ground if needed. I have 4 six foot long sections - now never have used all four when in a tree.. but have had it passed up to me occasionally over the years.
