i get little grubs and ants in my firewood . i wonder if they will eat my milled wood while seasoning, and my efforts will be in vain.

is there anyway i can pretreat my lumber when it is seasoning ?

i was thinking borax or salt water bath, or building a chamber out of slabs and running my wood stove pipe into it, bassically making it a smoker type kiln.
any thoughts ?

My thoughts are, that firewood is on or near the ground and staying damp.

"Properly" air drying lumber, is put on "stickers", up off the ground with a cover over it. Bugs don't like air drying stacks of lumber with air flowing through the stack. (with bark off) SO, bugs just aren't as interested in your lumber stack...

I doubt you'll smoke them out, but if you can maintain 140 deg F for a few hours you'll cook them out. Since I'm not familiar with your local woods & bugs, I suggest you check with an exterminator. We've got a nasty bug here called the "powder post beetle" that loves certain species of woods, even if they are dry. They're real buggers to get rid of after they've hitched a ride into your house on a piece of furniture.
