I have a 40 hp massey turbo diesel tractor and have been looking at pto mounted stump grinders. I have never seen one of these run. The particular one I was looking at it at this link http://www.wikco.com/Stump.html
The main reason I am thinking PTO is I don't want to spend $15K+ on another piece of equipment I will have to trailer and maintain. We usually haul the grindings off so having the loader and bucket there makes it easy. I currently have a 20hp promark self propelled that makes fast work of stumps 24" and smaller. I would like to have something hydraulic for larger stumps. If anyone has any experience with these your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

iv'e used pto stump grinders some are good some not ..i reckon your 40 hp tractor might not be big enough ..for large stumps you realy need 80 hp+ ,also you realy need to find out the hp at the pto ,it will usualy be a lot less than engine hp ,iv'e found that stump grinders for tractors and skid sters need a lot of hp to work fast

i just looked at the link that grinder looks as though she chucks the chips far and wide ..they certainly talk the machine up but id definatly have a demo first as like ive said most pto stump grinders that iv'e used and seen always seem to lack grunt..mind you i bet there big model on a 100 hp would work fairly well

they can work very well the ones ive seen are 80+hp exellent on big rows of stumps

The company that makes the stumper 280 has a PtO stump grinder that work well.
