So here goes I cleaned up about 20 stumps for a guy from work and we got to talking around the burn pile after we where done and I mentioned I needed a cylinder to finish out the parts list for my splitter project. To this he replies I got one we just used for a week on a plastic press at work they scrapped the press so I pulled it back off and bought it for scrap price, If you want it you cn have it. So we drive the mile to his house and we load up a 6-6.5 X 36-40 " and a 6x36 (the new one) onto my trailer. OK here is the question which is better to use for the splitter as far as speed and power go? I already know a two stager in the 28gpm is in the mix somewhere to get anything close to speed with such big bore cylinders. But how many tons can I put out at the standard 2500 psi pressure of the normal relief in the valve. Oh btw I just got a $300 dollar cylinder for an hours work (Good reason for paying it forward)

A 6" bore cylinder will have unstoppable splitting power at the expense of speed with typical sized pumps. It all depends on you needs and what you will be splitting. You will surely need the 28GPM on that large of a cylinder. Even then it may be a tad on the slow side. Of coarse you could make up for the speed with a multi wedge since you will have the power.
