I recently posted messages looking for a recommendation for my next ground saw. I have a ms200 for climbing and a 272xp for a ground saw. Recently, I had to bring the 272 into a mechanic due to a carburation problem I couldn't figure out. He pressure tested the carb and said that under the high speed adjustment screw there was a leak. He described brass and rubber components that couldn't be purchased so I needed a new carb. 4 days now and no carb from Husky yet. Anyway, several guys on this site were pushing the Dolmar 7900 when I asked about a possible new stihl460 or husky 372xp. I would like to confirm what I got out of the many helpful postings on this site. Will my bars for my 272xp fit the 7900? Are there any down sides to the 7900?

Yes they will accept the same bar and chain combo's

I'll admit it.... I'm a Stihl guy.

Unfortunately I had the opportunity a few weeks back to run a 7900 along with my new 441(month old) and a 460. I like my 441 which runs strong and I personally like better than the 460, but that being said, I have ordered a 7900.

They are in my opinion one of the strangest looking saws and plastic'y appearance etc... and I won't even mention the styling of the dawgs. My dad thinks the saw looks too rounded and not masculine enough. I will agree. The fact is that for the money they are one of the strongest saws out there and I have yet to hear about one that has not thoroughly impressed its owner or met an untimely death. And talk about power/weight ratio.

Nice saw... Can't wait till mine gets here.:monkey:

As Scott said, they will fit perfectly.....:biggrinbounce2:

Down-sides of the 7900, maybe air filter system (compared with the 372, not the 272), and maybe vibe numbers (but they don't tell the whole story) - I believe the answer is actually NO....

Just to clarify your statement. That is no down side? Yes for 7900?

Personally I like the styling and really like the stout cutting dogs that work very well for me in my applications.

My 6401 will become a 7900 very soon.

Maybe, again, but read the posts by Ben Walker on it, and the CUs, Dr. Stangs etc.....

I think Bens 7900 was the only 7900 known to "mankind" that had oiler issues, surely not the norm for those saws.....

some of the earlier 6400, 7300 and 7900 had a problem with the oil line shrinking, ( poor rubber) they changed type of rubber they'r made of. I have'nt seen a problem with any in the last two years.

I believe a few of the very early ones had a problem, but it is probably long gone........

I once saw a list of the changes made to the 7900 since introduction, and it was pretty long (believe it was posted by 166, in one of the "Ben" treads).

By now, I would have taken my chances on the 7900, if I could define a need for it.....:)
